Do "precollege" classes at local universities count as ECs? They either are no-credit or 1 credit.

I’m talking about classes high schoolers take that are around 3 hrs on a Saturday and last for 10 or more weeks. Classes in things like film production, digital photography or fashion design etc. All held at reputable colleges in my city. Where would this go on the Common App?

IMO classes should go in the education section and you would send transcripts from the local university along with your HS transcript to each college you apply to.

If you did things outside of class utilizing those skills (ex. taking photos for yearbook/newspaper, working on a charity fashion show etc.) those could be considered ECs.

If credits are earned, you have to send the transcripts for sure.

I agree with the above. My D did a summer course for college credit and we sent the transcript to all her colleges. Luckily the college she got the credit from made it very easy for us and didn’t even charge.

ETA: The info was put in the education section. The course was pass/fail.

Thanks everyone! Now if it’s a class that doesn’t offer credit it will still go under Education? Is that right? What about something like acting training that is technically classes, but not at a college? I think of that as an EC, but would that also go under education? Appreciate your feedback:)

I would still put it under education.

@Lindagaf Thanks again!!
