Having submitted all my applications for RD, I read back on my record to discover (well, rediscover) my 162 PSAT.
My actual SAT is far out of the PSAT’s prediction: 2350 single sitting.
So, does the PSAT matter to the slightest extent in college applications?
No, it is not reported. It only matter in that it can qualify you for National Merit. But then you report the national merit status, not the psat score anyway.
@Brownparent Thank your for your response. But building on what you said, typically, are the scholarships for a 2350 SAT significantly higher than national merit status?
Nah it’s not a big deal. My PSAT last year was 183. My December SAT was 2130. Colleges don’t even really see the PSAT anyways.
No. There are specific scholarships for nat’l merit status–at certain colleges those are significant. There are no specific scholarships for that phantom SAT score. There are certain guaranteed scholarships for scores at a few colleges, but the scores are usually based on M+CR. There is a list of automatic scholarships they have varying rates of scores required linked in one of the threads pinned to the top of the financial aid forum. Other schools give scholarships for ‘top’ students but there is no particular SAT cutoff, it is holistic, and sure part of that is scores but not all of that.
