Do SAT II's really matter

I've noticed that numerous schools do not require SAT II's. However, will it kill me if I don't take them? I planned on taking the SAT yet again in November/December and even if I were to take the Subject tests I'm not expecting over 650 in any category. I'm planning on applying to the top UC's (UCB,UCLA,UCD and UCSD) and a few private schools (USC, NYU,Pepperdine, Boston U). Additionally, I want to Major in either Biology or Pre-Med. If I don't take SAT II's will it help if I apply undecided and change my major after I finish the standard classes?

Sorry if this isnt the correct section. I couldn't find a suitable topic for this thread and thought this was the closest.

what are you talking about? SAT IIs are mandatory in some cases no exceptions and most of the time are mandatory when you take the regular SAT. if you aren’t expecting over 650 in any category, you have little to no shot at ucb, ucla, usc, nyu or bu then.

BU(some programs), UCB(for the uc-score), ucla all require subject tests. the rest strongly recommend them.

If the majority of the schools you are applying to require the subject tests than it is best to just go ahead and take them. If you don’t think you can get into the 700’s for any subject then perhaps get a tutor because they do use those scores to determine the relative hardness of those classes in your high school compared to other students.

if the schools you’re applying to require the sat iis then it’s a really bad idea not to take them. if they’re recommended you should probably still take them. if they’re optional, then don’t worry about it. but you have a bit of time still, so if you’re taking the main sats in november, just pick your two best subjects for december and start prepping now.

Off topic: Are there any lists online about what schools accept Nov scores for EA/ED?
