I have a question - when transferring, do schools care about what major you have?

What I mean is -
For example, if I major in Biology, and I want to transfer to another school that also has a Biology major.
Will the new school look at my application and think, your school already offers you the major you want, why are you transferring?

Is it better to transfer BECAUSE my old school doesn't have a major I want, and the new school does?
Does the "major" thing matter?

There are an infinite number of reasons why someone might change schools other than major. You could be moving to be closer to where you want to live after graduating. You could be moving because the new school’s program is higher ranked or more prestigious than the one you are leaving. You could be moving because the new school is more affordable than the other one. You could be moving because you want to be closer to home (or farther from home). You could be moving because school 2 was your first choice and you were deferred. You could be moving because school 2’s culture fits your personality better.

I’m confused, are you asking if the fact that the new school has the major you want and the old one doesn’t gives you a leg up? Or are you asking that if they both have your major would that be a negative factor?

Yes, it’s one of the best reasons for transferring. But it’s far from being the only good reason.

I don’t think the this is going to pose a significant issue in the transfer acceptance. They aren’t going to see that your current school offers biology and think: “well now, this is suspicious. This person wants to transfer here to major in biology, but their current school already offers biology! What are they really after!?”

They’re going to look at your application and decide if you make the cut or not. In my experience, the majority of college transfers have nothing to do with the availability of a specific major. It more often has to do with school B being a better fit than school A, and often for reasons that don’t necessarily directly relate to the specific major.
