I know this has been asked a million times, but does it matter? I intend to major in English, but that's the most possible major at the school I want to transfer to. I was thinking about applying as an Environmental Science major because my school doesn't offer that major, hence a reason to transfer and a less popular major. I'm guessing it doesn't really matter either way, any thoughts?

the application will usually say whether or not your major matters, and im sure you can call the admissions office to clarify how much it matters
it can matter if you're applying to a certain college within a larger university, because if you apply as a ES major, you'll most likely be put in the science school and they'll usually expect you stay in that school for either a semester or a year...
so, advice? ask each school individually on their policies of admissions based on major...

Well, it's BU and they're both in the College of Arts & Sciences. I'm also taking these really hard science courses that'll slightly hurt my GPA...so I was thinking English would kind of explain that a bit.

Take a look at the UCLA admitted transfer profile:

applications are reviewed by faculties from the Department

in the case of BU, I don't know if it'll matter. You may want to call and ask if it's an impacted major, meaning many people apply for the same one. In that case, there would not be enough faculty/resources to admit everyone, so the major itself will have a lower acceptance rate. I know that at Cornell, Applied Economics and Management is an impacted major with around a 16% acceptance rate. English may be the same way, but it seems like such a broad subject that BU should be able to handle all accepted students even if they wanted to have the same major.

It depends on the school. For UChicago, it doesn't matter. For Georgetown, it does.

nspeds, what majors are impacted at Georgetown?

any majors that fall into the SFS for sure.

Yah, true dat.

To Georgetown? You need to choose a school. How you fill out the application is contingent on the school you select.

thanks nspeds,

i am sorry, but i don't think i am applying to georgetown :( it's a very reach for me haha

anyway, i am considering UMich, UNC, UVA, and NYU. I don't think I need to declare an anticipated major on apps for those schools... am i correct?

whats g-towns SFS?
