Do Schools Use the Writing Section for the SAT?

I know schools like Cornell specifically state that they don’t.

What about other schools such as the Ivies, Stanford, MIT, UC’s, other publics such as UMich, Purdue, UIUC, Georgia Tech etc.

Just wondering about this as Cornell sent me an email saying that they do not consider writing scores at all for admissions.

Hypothetically, does that mean you’re totally fine with an 1800 SAT (800 M, 800 R, 200 W) at least for Cornell and the other schools that only look at M+CR?

Bump.

Some schools don’t. Some schools do, but weigh it less than M and CR. Some schools don’t consider W at all.

Depends on the school- you may have to look online. When I visited RPI, they said that they only look at CR and M, but at the same point they wouldn’t ignore an 800 writing score, and that this was the norm for most tech schools.
