My mom recently got an e-mail from Sam Houston State University saying that I had missing information in my financial aid package. I have triple checked and made sure that my FAFSA was completed correctly (or so I think). It is asking for me to submit a Parent 2017 Tax Transcript, an Income Tax Worksheet, and a Verification Worksheet. My question is are these going to be required for all of the colleges I applied to, or is this solely for Sam Houston? Did I miss this on the FAFSA?
I am not planning on attending SHSU, it was just one of the colleges I chose to send my FAFSA to, but I would really like to know if I will be getting similar emails from different universities so that I can know what to do.
Not sure about this one, but every university has their own requests for FA info beyond the FAFSA, so you do need to watch your portals and emails for requests.
It sounds like this college selected you for verification. Schools do this with a random group of applicants sometimes. There might not be anything wrong at all with what you did…they just want you to send in what they have asked for.
NOW if you didn’t use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, you can likely expect a request for a tax transcript from all of the other colleges…so either go back into the FAFS and link to the Data Retrieval Tool…or order a tax transcript.
You can use the IRS data retrieval tool and the school can still ask you to submit a transcript to complete your financial aid process.
The college has told you what they needed. You have been selected for verification. It does not mean that you did anything wrong. You will need to submit to the college the information that they are requesting or you will not receive any aid.
