Do some colleges really OVERLOOK freshman year?

I've heard this a lot lately and personally I find it hard to believe! I hope it's true but I'm just not sure! Does anyone know about this?

Gladly ( well for me) it’s only some universities that overlook freshmen year.

Few I know are:

University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
University of California- Berkeley

I know that upon receipt of your HS transcript, some schools recalculate your GPA in their own way, not counting, for example PE grades or whatever else they decide. I have heard that some don’t count freshmen grades, but have not come across any. They do prefer an upward trend in grades, so just do the best you can now. You can always add an explanatory note about freshman year grades if needed.

I believe Princeton disregards freshman grades.
