Do students have to pay to go to athletic events?

And what if I wanted to bring a friend or someone else with me? Would I have to pay for someone to get into the Dean Dome or or Kenan Stadium?

Students don’t have to pay to get into any sporting events. The hardest games to get into are the men’s basketball games (for obvious reasons). The process for getting into basketball games works like this:

 1. Sign up for the ticket lottery used to give out student tickets.
 2. If you don’t win the lottery or forgot to sign up, the Carolina Athletic Association holds a redistribution line the evening before every game. Essentially, what happens is that students who won tickets via the lottery, but are not going to use the tickets can send their tickets back to the CAA and the CAA will give them out to students via the redistribution line.
 3. If the two above steps fail, you can get in the standby line the day of the game…basically they let you in just before tipoff based on the number of “no-shows” for ticketholders.

You can bring non-student guests to UNC football games ($50/ticket) to sit in the student section; however, you cannot bring non-student guests to UNC basketball games (doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen on occasion though…)

I am guess though you could just buy regular tickets too right? That is if you don’t get one off of the lottery?

Sounds good, I like going to the football games too so Ill definately sign up for every game if I can in both basketball and football. Hopefully I get lucky enough to win some of those student lotteries cause I love UNC hoops!

Did you see the VT game last night? That was painful, everytime I got my hopes up VT would make another score.

Yes, Ive pretty much watched every game this season. Its been really painful to see the team play like this. I expected we would have 10 or so losses this year, but not to have 9 ALREADY. I was hoping for at least a Sweet 16 in the tournament, but it doesnt even look like we are even going to make the tourny…sucks.

I know UNC has really disappointed me this year as well! But it would be AWESOME if they would be national champs when we are students there!

Got one name for you: Harrison Barnes. :)

You could buy regular tickets from tarheelblue to basketball games, however, you don’t find out if you win the lottery until a few days before the game. Also, for rivalry games (Duke, State, and sometimes Wake and other ACC games), usually the tickets all have already gone to Ram’s Club members before anybody else gets a crack at them, so usually all that’s left are the nosebleed seats for these games (if any). Even then, the tickets you buy through tarheelblue are not going to be in the student section. IMHO, it’s just not worth it to buy tickets from tarheelblue while you’re a student.

Nope, just find a student who looks like your friend and ask if you can borrow their UNC ID.

I’ll just have to get good with my grandfather who is a Ram Club member, maybe I can convince he to get me a set of seasons tickets. I think he is happier than I was when I got in, lol.
