So I'm a Junior in highschool, and while I get great grades, I'm considerably lacking in my extra curricular activities. My school doesn't offer much as far as clubs and activities, and for the very few that interest me, there are no slots. There are plenty of summer volunteer services that I would be extremely passionate about, (e.g. wildlife and/or enviornmental conservation, humane society, etc.) but I am worried that doing such services are not equivalent to in school clubs, activities, or services.

Also: is it better to do a few services over the summer that I am dedicated towards, or try to do as many activities as possible? Seeing peoples lengthy lists of EC's, leadership positions etc. on this site has made me, for lack of a better word, intimidated.

Joining a school club is probably the least impressive EC there is. I would expect that a summer volunteer experience would be much more personally rewarding for you, and also more helpful for college admissions.

I’m a little confused by your word choice, though, where you refer to activities you “would be” passionate about, but haven’t gotten around to doing. Developing a “passion” for a worthy activity at this late date may be suspect, to some.

I apologize; it was a bit of a typo. I meant to say that there are certain topics that I am currently passionate about, and I would like to join activities that serve such interests.

I’ve posted volunteering I did during the summer as an EC in my apps, because the definition of EC’s are things you do in addition to/outside of school. I just put the number of weeks in summer or however long the program was as my “weeks/year”. And in the description thing, you can put “summer program” or something like that… it can only help your app, really.
