My son is considering applying to U Mich as a transfer for Fall 2006 and would like to start working on his essays this summer. Does anyone know if the questions change with each new year?

Thanks for your help.

Do you know what questions they were for this incoming year's students? I believe I have my questions for the year before that.

Here's what I had (I mentioned my name, SSN, and College of Engineering at top, so not sure if this was school-specific within UM):

Short Answer Essays:
1. At the University of Michigan, we are committed to building an academically superb and widely diverse educational community. What would you as an individual bring to our campus community?

Describe the experience, person, or event that most inspired you to pursue your chosen course of study.

Required Essay (don't know #1, or if there was a #3):
2. Discuss an issue of local, national, or international concern. Why is this issue important to you? How would you resolve it? What impact would its resolution have on others?

Hopefully these will help your son get a jist of what colleges, and particularly UM, ask on an essay.

Yeah, Michigan's topics were extremely bad. Specially the engineering specific question.

Those were the questions I had when I applied for fall 2004. The long essay had three options, including the one you listed.

I remember the way the class of 07 essay question was worded basically "baited" a applicant to talk about social issues and social justice.

Woe was the applicant that answered wrong ;)

Thank you all for posting. He found the 2004-05 questions and they were the same except that "#2. Describe the experience, person, or event that most inspired you to pursue your chosen course of study," was not included.
This will give him a pretty good idea of what to expect. Thanks again.
