So, being a guy who is extremely worried about not making it into UM (due to his low gpa and average ACT) I know that the essay and two short answers are a great way to push you enough to tip the scales in your favor when admissions times come. I will be applying early this November, but wanted to get a head start on writing essays and discovered that the essay topics do not come out until August. But I do know the topics from 2009, and I was wondering, if the short answer topic of "diversity" always the same each year? I know topics vary depending on what school you are applying to, but one of the two short answers (250 words) seems to be consistent each year. Is this true? Also, does the essay topic choices (you choose one of a, b, or c) the same each year as well?

Thank you and please help this UM 2014 hopeful.

I think the prompts change every year, but the essays are posted months before the Early Response deadline. You should have access to the application and essays with plenty of time to write some quality stuff. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, either. Counselors and English teachers can be a great help when it comes to college app essays.

Also, if you’re concerned about your ACT score, would it be possible for you to take the test again? I’m not aware of your current situation, but the easiest way to raise a score is to take the test multiple times. You could also look into ordering the Test Information Release (TIR). I know that helped me a lot…

Sorry I couldn’t answer your questions more directly. Best of luck!

Yeah, last year the essays were sent out in May. You’ll have all summer to work on them if you want, don’t worry about it right now.

And for ACT, I actually took it in Sept. my senior year also, you should try doing that too.

they have been the same for at least the past two years.
