Thanks @exitstageleft . That is helpful feedback. If she goes to UGA, it is close to home. However, we will be considering some out of state schools if the financial aid works out. I like the idea of her having a small job to pay for entertainment. And yes, paying throughout the school year will help a lot!
To add to the point @exitstageleft made about spreading the cost throughout the year, some of the schools we’re considering will allow you to make payments (interest free). For example, one of my D’s schools will let you divide 1st semester into August, Sept, and Oct payments, and 2nd semester into Jan, Feb, March payments - a MUCH easier pill to swallow.

If her scholarship can only be used for tuition, you can still claim a credit for fees and books.
