My junior college has a list of credits and their appropriate transfer numbers, with the University of Virginia. If I earn A's in transferable courses, does UVa have to accept them if and when I am accepted for transfer? It seems so unfair that I should have to work hard and study to earn good grades, yet have them disappear into the academic cosmos just because a given school wants me to pay for more credits. Is that just how it works?

Keep in mind when you apply to graduate school you tell them your GPA for all the schools you've attended so it'll help you out there.

So even though I may have to pay more and take additional credits, it'll help my overall GPA. Maybe it's not so bad after all.
