Do they offer a good tutoring program?

I am thinking in saying yes to MHC, I’m just wondering if they offer tutoring to freshmen and how effective is this program.
I just want to make sure there is help available for me in case I need it :)

Help sessions, office hours, and TA sessions are available to you. Office hours are offered by everyone, but help sessions and TA sessions are specific to departments (psych, math, foreign language, etc). Some languages give each student her own personal language tutor for the semester.

MHC also has the SAW (Speaking, Arguing, and Writing) Program which is essentially where you can have someone read your paper, watch you practice your presentation, etc., and give you critiques and help make it better. It isn’t specifically geared towards freshman, but it’s available to everyone. More info here - [Mount Holyoke College :: Speaking, Arguing, & Writing Program](http://www.mtholyoke.edu/wcl/11260.shtml)

There is a lot of assistance here, but I just want to clarify a common misconception that a lot of students seem to have. Mount Holyoke doesn’t really offer developmental coursework or intensive tutoring like what you might find at your state university or something like that. The help is absolutely here – you should feel plenty comfortable about coming here and getting the help you need – but our students are expected to be pretty self-supporting and self-advocating. You need to go for help; it won’t come looking for you like in high school. So to answer your question about there being a formal tutoring program for first-years, no, there isn’t one, but there are countless resources and opportunities available to you. And, if nothing else, there’s always office hours; our faculty members are ridiculous easy to meet with. :)
