Hi,
I’d like to first apologize if this thread is in the wrong place, but yeah, the title says it all. My school requires one year of either art/music to graduate (not sure if all schools require it), and I was wondering if colleges also required it.
Thanks for all your input on this matter.
Many high schools require at least one year of art/music. I believe it is mandated by some states as a requirement of graduation. The requirements for colleges vary from school to school so you have to check the recommended/required courses for each individual school you are considering. There is no short cut for this. But whatever colleges require/recommend you need to take a course to graduate to there is really no choice.
@happy1 Okay, thanks for your input! I figured requirements were different for each college and I’ll do some research about it tomorrow!
I would just take what you have to in HS…that will be sufficient for colleges.
@bopper I don’t think that is always the case. For example in our public HS which is a very competitive school, only one year of world language is required for graduation and that is no sufficient for most competitive colleges. Almost all of the students in the HS end up taking 2-4 years of foreign language.
Well they were asking about one year of art/music…not foreign language.
University of California requires one year of fine arts and our California public high school does not. So you absolutely cannot rely just on what your h.s. requires.
California and South Dakota public universities require frosh applicants to have art or music.
