I've always wondered this... I've never met a transfer student who went and lived in a dorm. It seems that only freshman go into dorms, and after their sophomore year almost nobody stays in dorms. Is this true? Any ideas why?

I don't know why, but I need to stay in dorm to catch up the social. I did heard coed dorms are not social heavens like they are often protrayed.

i know people go to stanford stay in dorm.

i would imagine that transfers would want to go to dorms, cuz we all missed out in the dorming experience!

i definetely want to dorm at least 1 year..

im gonna dorm when i transfer to indiana university in the fall. im from out of state too...

I feel like it depends on the university. Housing is a HUGE issue at a lot of colleges right now which means that some schools have problems placing transfer students in dorms. Some however will provide housing at nearby universities for transfers. (Villanova has a dorm at Harcum College for transfer students. The provide transportation to and from the school etc.) Other colleges guarantee housing for transfer 1st semester, but it's up in the air after that. (Boston College for instance) Some schools require that all freshman, sophomore and first year students live on campus..This is REALLY nice because even if you're transferring in as a junior, you'll still be guaranteed housing. There are also some schools where housing isn't an issue at all and there is enough room for all students...I myself do intend to live on campus.

It sounds great....but I definitely don't want to have a roommate and I definitely don't want to deal with all the insipid activities that may come from living in a dorm.....I'd rather get an on-campus, university owned apartment......
