Housing for a transferring sophomore

So long story short, I submitted my transcripts and application for transfer about 3 weeks ago, and am still awaiting my acceptance letter (I'm sure i'll get one (3.9 GPA + met priority dates)) but my question for you guys is what to do about housing/living.

I do not know anyone at IU currently, but I like to party. I was wondering what type of apartment would be suggested, or would trying to get a dorm and getting paired with a roommate in the northwest neighborhood be better? I don't technically want to live in a dorm but if I have to get to know people I will.

Also if I were to go the apartment route, would I still be aloud to have a car considering I'm a sophomore?

Any information would be nice, thanks.

I think it really depends on what you’re most comfortable doing. In all likelihood, if you live in a dorm, IU will put you in either Willkie North or South on the first or second floors where they put other transfer students. I lived there when I transferred and made some great friends however, that experience isn’t typical. It’s a fairly low-key neighborhood and the dorm isn’t very lively either. At the same time though, apartments require you to really reach out to your neighbors to make friends. Sadly, as a transfer students, most students your same age have already made their friends so it’s a lot harder to wiggle your way into groups. But, at the end of the day, I still made a lot of friends and it didn’t matter that my dorm wasn’t wild or that I didn’t have an apartment.

As for the car, they give parking permits based upon credits. However, any student is granted a permit at the stadium. You’ll simply have to take the A Bus to the stadium to pick up your car. IF you are lucky enough to get a D spot, you can park at any D space on campus, which are typically behind dorms and campus apartments.

I transferred in a few years ago. If its the same process as before transfers can list specific dorms rather than picking a neighborhood. I lived in Wright and it was great, made lots of friends and went to plenty of parties. Since you’ll be a soph. it won’t be weird as they’ll be about the same age as you. I wouldn’t recommend living off campus or in Wilkie of you want to be social
