I’m transferring next fall. I just sent in my last application and… apparently im not done. My Boston University portal is asking for a CSS Profile. I went directly to CC after HS so I had no idea what this was. Now Im really confused. The CSS isn’t listed in any checklist or other portal for any other school I applied to. Should I submit it to them as well even though they didn’t explicitly ask for it. Will it hurt my chances of getting scholarship (coming from an upper class family)?
not every school requires the CSS profile. The CSS is a financial tool used for institutional aid. However, if it is on your checklist for Boston then it needs to be finished. Unfortunately, it isn’t free to submit.
thank you. do you think I should send it to other school that I know Im going to need scholarships from or is it not worth it?
Some schools don’t use the CSS profile to determine grants and institutional aid. That is an institution-specific question.
You only send the Profile to colleges that use the Profile. You won’t be able to submit it elsewhere anyway because colleges that use the Profile have a profile code you use.
Boston University uses the Profile to determine the awarding of its institutional need based aid. So if you want their aid, you must submit the Profile. I believe they also use IDOC but you should get info about that after you submit your Profile.
Honestly, the CSS thing is such a scam. They don’t allow non-traditional students to get a waiver regardless of financial circumstances.
