Do UC accept transfers as undeclared?

Hey guys, one of my friends recently told me that he got accepted into UCSD last year as an undeclared major when he applied for compsci. Reason being that compsci is a heavily capped major and he didn’t have all the prereqs done. Do all UCs do this? And if so, how common is it? I’m asking because UCSB recently changed their psychology program, where they replaced the psychology major complete with psychology and brain sciences, which focuses a lot more on math and science. Thus, I’m missing a ton of prereqs, as I tailored my course plan for UCLA’s psychology program, which doesn’t require nearly as many science/math courses. My GPA is a 4.0, but yeah like I said I’m missing a bunch of prereqs for UCSB. Is there any chance that UCSB will offer me an undeclared spot?

I believe UCSD is the only one but I can’t verify 100%.

UCLA might accept a couple of undeclared social science majors, but it isn’t very common if they do at all.

Oh ok. thanks for the information! Do you think UCLA will accept me even if I am doing 2 prereqs in the spring? My major is impacted and like I said, 4.0 GPA with everything done in SPRING…

UCB L&S admits transfers as undeclared, but such students are expected to complete any remaining prerequisites* and declare their majors as quickly as possible.

*Some majors have prerequisites for declaration which are not readily available at community colleges. Prospective transfer students should complete all available prerequisites for their intended majors before transfer.

Honestly, UCLA psychology would probably deny a student with two prereqs in the spring before transfer. I should also mention that if you transfer to UCLA as undeclared you cannot declare for the psychology major, you have to be admitted directly.

UCSD signifies students who have not completed major requirements as undeclared. Berkeley admits them as “pre-Econ,” etc. There is a major noted as undeclared on Berkeley’s transfers by major page, but there were only 7 applicants designated in that category in 2017 so I’m not sure how they actually calculate it.

Hmm that’s pretty instance honestly, cuz the 2 classes are really easy classes compared to the rest of the classes on my transcript(got some pre med prereqs done). But I understand it’s the 2nd most applied to major. Maybe they’ll just waitlist me. Btw did you transfer to ucla?

Thanks! I’m liking my chances for Berkeley so far… all prereqs available done before spring and my major isn’t impacted. 4.0 overall gpa and igetc will be completed by spring. Only thing I’m concerned about is that I’m taking an overload of units this spring semester, which is anything above 18 at my school… and one of the classes is English 2… do you think I have a decent chance?

A 4.0 for a non-impacted major is pretty good and while it will still depend on which major it is to an extent, I think that you will have a good shot. I don’t know if English 2 is difficult, or what it is at all, but I highly doubt the admissions officer will count taking a lot of units against you, just as long as you don’t have TOO many cumulative units before transferring. I did not transfer to UCLA, like so many, I’m patiently waiting until April to get decisions back, so what I said was based off of their Transfer admission guide, not personal knowledge or anything like that.
