Do UC's take upward trends in consideration?

If our GPA has been getting increasingly better as time went on, would UC's take this into consideration? For example if someone had a low or average GPA but got a 4.0 the last semester or two (taking major pre-reqs), bringing it up considerably, would that be a factor in admissions?

I believe some do. At least that’s what I’m banking on. I had low 2.0’s my first semesters, left for two years, and then came back and have had 4.0’s the last four semesters.

@TheUnderdog1 - Have you seen any threads that mentioned this?

I hope so too, from Fall 2010 to Fall 2012 I had maintained continuous enrollment and at the start of the Fall 2012 semester I had a 2.11 GPA. At the start of the Fall 2012 semester It all somehow clicked in my head and I worked my ass off to get as many good grades as possible and now I got up to a 3.255 GPA UC.

So I hope it gets noticed

Yes I should hope so too. I got a 2.8 my first year, but in a summer and fall semester I managed to bring it up to a 3.34

This is copied and pasted (deleted the irrelevant info) from my unofficial transcript. As you can see, i first went to college and didn’t do to great, Fall 2010 i got straight A’s, but then got in a motorcycle accident and came back summer of 2013. From Fall 2010 on i have gotten a 4.0 every semester. I applied to all 9 UC’s and have talked to a lot of UC admissions counselors that have told me grade trend is definitely looked at. Come april I can update this thread to where i got in, and were i didnt… Hope this helps.

Upward trends are viewed at BUT think of it like this

Upward trend student = someone who did bad but is now doing well
High achieving student = someone who only did well.

So if the application pool is strong, the person who only did well in their academic career will have the leg up.
