Grade Upward Trend

Hi guys,

How much do you think grade upward trend matters in UC the admission decision? (UCLA and Berkeley, particularly)

Let's say, is it better to have 3.8 every quarter with a cumulative of 3.8? Or a 3.7 GPA, but 3.2 first two quartes and 4.0 in another two?

Thanks!

It matters but I think it only helps for lower GPA applicants. To me, an upward trend would be worth considering if it was something significant. For ex. going from 1.5->3.7->4.0. That’s an unusual trend and an indicator that the student’s current GPA may not be an exact indicator of his or her performance.

disclaimer I am not an admissions officer and this is purely speculation.

Yeah, that’s a big difference and, for sure, will have a serious impact.

You know I am just worried that about my messed up first quarter :)
