Hi,
my d, a junior, has pretty good stats for wash u, 97+ avg, good rigor and a 33 after her first act sitting. She’s re-taking the test in 3 weeks and based on practice tests, there’s a high probability of a superscore to 34. she has good, not great ECs.
We’ve heard demonstrated interest is important at wash U. My D attended a session at her high school. I’d prefer not to bear the expense of flying to st louis for a visit. Is there another way to demonstrate interest (besides ED)?
tia,
Request an (optional) alumni interview.
WashU loves great test score, full pay kids.
My D didn’t visit until after she got accepted to WashU. However she showed interest in other ways. She applied RD early (August/September) which they obviously liked because they called asking to interview her, attended the local information session, and applied for the optional scholarship. She had an interview with a local alumni at Starbucks and it went well. Good luck!
thanks all, like NJ’s idea of applying sep (if she can get her essay done). #ClarinetDad16 she has to move up one point in any of 3 subsections for a 34, is a 34 considered high score for wash u? I know it’s the 75th percentile. We are full pay (sigh).
Maybe I’m being silly not visiting as it would give her an opportunity for ed. tough call.
If it’s one of her top choices, visit so she can see how she likes the school. With her good scores and you being full pay, she will be accepted at a lot of schools, and you can’t save all the visits for April.
We are also full pay, applied in early October for RD, visited with rep at local HS but not formal interview. 34 ACT one sitting, lots of EC. We’ll see if it makes a difference. We haven’t visited.
Yup full pay and you are in! coddleU at St. Louis!
demonstrated interest is HUGE at wash u
WE don’t need to demonstrate interest
However
SHE does

Wash U is well known for giving preference to full pay. I’m sure the top range of their scores are all those of students on financial aid-holding up the scores of those who are full pay. So if you are full pay, I can’t imagine you being turned down. In fact your scores are much more like those students from families who struggle financially.

Your chances depend a lot on whether you are full pay. If you are full pay, wealthy and had every advantage, you can get in with scores and grades a lot lower than those needed for poorer students who got their grades and test scores without individual tutoring and without benefiting from all the ways money can help students. Ironic but true. I bet the top of Wash U’s distribution of scores and grades have a high percent of students who need aid whereas the bottom is full pay.
Please provide the statistics supporting these statements. Thank you.

^Still waiting for your WashU statistics and their source . . .
@swampdraggin can’t figure out to whom or what your statement is directed:
“WE don’t need to demonstrate interest
HoweverSHE does”
@555State obviously, lostaccount has some sort of ax to grind and can’t back up those statements. However, it’s off topic for this thread, suggest you take it to pm
