Do Work-Study Students Have to File Taxes?

Hi, I earned about $1000 last year due to work-study and had about $10 of tax withheld. Would I need to file taxes because of this? And since I no longer work at the same place, how will my employer contact me with W-2 forms?

If that's your only income, you don't have to file. But you might want to to get the $10 back. You can file online for free through the Freefile on the IRS website.

If the $1,000 was all you earned from any job last year you are probably not required to file a return as you are under the $5450 where you would be required to file. But you should file anyway in order to get the taxes deducted refunded to you. You can file online and free through the IRS freefile.

Your employer should mail your W2 to you.
