ADHD meds like Adderall or Ritalin even though they don't have the diagnosis. They can then go on 8 hour study marathons.

I heard it is very prevalent among colleges. Specifically ivy leagues.

I take them sometimes. You can study for like 11 hours. If you’re jealous, just take them lol. But I can understand how it would be a disadvantage to people and why people wouldn’t be okay with it.

I got As/A-s last semester without abusing ADD medications, so no. I don’t mind people who actually need them, but otherwise I view them as akin to taking steroids in competitive body building. Kinda sad that a person needs to take drugs for a condition they don’t have in order to get good grades IMO.

However from reading on google “adderall stories” many are hooked but once tolerance builds up they become emotionally dead when they’re off it: dopamine receptors are all messed up.

Have you heard of any college students whose lives have been ruined by this? Or do you guys do it as a once-a-week kind of thing?

^I don’t think that is very common, I know a few people who use it regularly…well, if you abuse it, of course you may suffer side effects. That goes for everything.

study pills? is that what kids are calling them these days? i think your refering to speed and other amphetamines … ive known druggies that would buy Ritalin to snort it.

Stay away from that $H!T. Ive known many many people who have abused perscription medications and painkillers for long periods of time and paid the ultimate price for it. now im talking about heavy duty painkillers and other opiates, but you don’t want to abuse amphetamines they will make you psychotic.

The only thing i feel is a severe amount of pity for these people because they are destroying themselves and they can’t help it.

I would find it hard to believe that one becomes “emotionally dead” once off Adderall. You do feel a bit sluggish/in a bad mood when you come down from it, but Adderall simply isn’t that strong of a drug. (It is a strong drug, but people underestimate how many drugs you really have to do in order to mess yourself up permanently.)

It is addictive and when I come into quantities of it I have to make a special effort to space it out so that I don’t get addicted. It is an addictive drug but it’s not like a do-it-once-and-you-need-it-to-function thing. No drug in the world is like that, only 1 out of 10 people get addicted to even the most addictive drugs.

I don’t do it on a regular basis, it’s mostly concentrated around finals, or if I find some I’ll use it sporadically throughout the semester for a hard test or something. I will occasionally use it recreationally (at a higher dose) for a concert or something if I don’t have any better drugs.

I have never personally known anyone who got messed up by it and I know a LOT of people who do it.

I have never taken any ‘study aids’… lol

Nah, I don’t feel jealous of anyone who uses them. I can study for just about 12 hours straight. I’ve been studying since I woke up this morning. I study for 45 minutes, take a 10 minute break and repeat until lunch then I take an hour off and go back at it.

Just treat it like a job… But, I’m pretty stubborn I guess…

People do that? I honestly didn’t know, although I should have.
I get good grades without that stuff.

That’s rough. I think a little more effort is better than putting that stuff in you.

I’ve tried taking them twice, but made the mistake of taking them before my AP test not the study session, HUGE MISTAKE. I was super fidgety the entire time and my hand was shaking a little so my hand writing was awful. I honestly wouldn’t take them unless it was an emergency.

Why do people need drugs to go on an 8 hour study marathon? I do that just fine without needing drugs. If I’m really into studying I just stop noticing things like hunger or needing to go to the bathroom until I’m done. Didn’t realize other people needed drugs to be that focused. I thought it was just a natural thing.

I appreciate your honesty RoxSox.

The horror stories I read were found in google “adderall stories” of how you can build tolerance from small doses 5mg everday to 10, 20…60 and so on.

Theres just an unsettling feeling knowing your at 50% and can easily go up to 100%.

However I’m in high school, and I don’t even know if its prevalent in our school. No one talks about it

I thought about it. But I don’t feel at a huge disadvantage for not doing it… like in Bilology, I bombed all the tests, but most of our grade was from the labs, which I focosed on, and got a B. A study aid might help you study for tests, but will it help with labs?

No. I prefer to earn my grades without the help of artificial drugs. If people really feel the need to do that then whatever. I’m probably going to get a better grade still anyway.

No…I’m not going to risk my health for a grade. In the scheme of things whether I get a B instead of an A isn’t that significant.

My high school was really bad about drugs. Everytime i walked in the bathroom there was about 5 dudes in there doin rails off the back of the toilets, buying, and selling. Feces smeared on the walls of the bathroom, urine all over the floor, puke all over the floor, snuff and spit tobacco, cig butts all over the floor and toilet seats. the stalls did not have doors so there would be 3 or 4 guys a day publically taking a dump. I didn’t even do drugs and i would literally be asked 4-5 times daily at lunch if i knew where i could find some good painkillers. bassically what they were asking was who is selling pills today? one of my old friends from grade school sold about $500 worth the weed in 1 day at school. i remember that there was a tree that everyone would would go out and smoke weed by that was ironically right next to the school and in plain sight. at lunch time kids would be smokin out in the parking lot and out in there cars. you could walk down the hall and it would be really crowded, kids would be smoking cigs and joints in the hallways and dealing pills at their lockers. kids would only get busted every once in a while and we had frequent bomb threats/evacuations and lock downs where police would come in and search students in classrooms for drugs. They said the lock downs were just drills but really they were ripping out peoples car interiors and searching for drugs. Teachers were getting arrested for having sex with students. teachers were fired for hitting students. I was a good kid but even i did whatever the hell i felt like. The school was in poor condition while fat cats pocketed all the money. if you were on a sports team you could do whatever you wanted when you wanted because everything was financially centered around sports. the sports teams were also terrible my junior year we did not win a single varsity game. cafeteria lunches were reduced to 4 chicken nuggets on a slice of bread while prices reached up to 5 bucks per meal. the school told us that the state said they had to cut back on how much they fed us because we were overweight students. but i weighed 110lbs when they told me that.

ahhh the good ol days…

no way. i dont need drugs to study and get As. lmao!

A love the CC attitude.

“No thanks, I’m the shiz. You can’t get all As, like me, on your own? That’s pathetic. Did I mention I get all As?”

I would think they are more prevalent in majors that require a lot if memorization. Majors that are lab and/or concept based on the other hand… don’t seem as affective.

^ In case no one ever told you…every degree is memorization based. From engineering to liberal arts it’s ALL memorization. Critical thinking is just taking something existing and memorized and adding a tiny bit to it or combining it with something else you memorized.

When people ask me how I’m so smart I tell them that it’s just because I have a really good memory.

whatever happened to a good ole cup of coffee or two?
