Do you have to apply for early financial aid if you apply early decision?

I am applying Early Decision to uPenn, and I just found out that the early deadline for financial aid was on the same day (yesterday). Will I still be considered for financial aid even if I turn in my forms a day late? I'll still get them in by the regular deadline for financial aid.

The early deadline is so Penn can prepare a financial aid award should you be accepted ED. How will you know if you can afford to attend this school if you don’t get your financial aid award with the ED acceptance? When you are accepted ED, you are given a very small window of time in which to accept your offer. You are required to withdraw all other applications if you accept the offer. You will NOT have until the regular decision time to make this decision.

I suggest you call Penn and see if you can submit your finaid application materials now for the ED round.

If they say NO, and you need financial aid, you might want to consider asking them to move your application to the regular decision pile do you will have time to get you financial aid info submitted.

You need to submit them ASAP. If you’re accepted, then you’ll get your FA pkg a few days later.

Once you get your FA pkg in Dec, then you have to quickly look it over and decide if you can afford the school, because the deadline to accept an ED offer is shortly after decisions are made.

You can’t wait until the RD deadline to apply for aid. That is too late. The deadline to accept an ED offer is in late Dec or early Jan. How can you accept it (and withdraw other apps) if you don’t know what the FA pkg contains???

Thanks for your help!
Financial aid won’t really influence my decision to go there because I don’t think I can qualify anyway, and my parents can afford to pay my expenses. The problem is that my sister will be going to college in about three years, and I don’t want to spend all of my family’s college savings. I’ll probably have to take out some loans, but financial aid would really help.

Then you need to follow Thumpers advice.

If your family plans to pay the full cost of you attending college, and all you want is Direct Loans, then really all you need to fill out is the FAFSA which can’t be done until January. However, since your sister will be in college when you still are, I would suggest you get the Profile or whatever else the school requires for institutional aid done also. Some schools will NOT allow you to apply for institutional aid in subsequent years if you do not do so as an incoming freshman. Better safe than sorry…get those forms submitted ASAP.

Lambda, schools have deadlines for a reason. The MOST important thing applicants should attend to is those deadlines! Believing in oneself isn’t going to help one speck UNLESS the college says its fine to submit these forms late.

This student needs to contact UPenn ASAP!

^ I assume there was a deleted message since I don’t see a Lambda now.

It was someone who was spamming various threads to try & get donations for her sorority.
It was kinda sad actually.
