Do you have to be fancy to ask someone out to prom?

that's so cute!

That's so sketchy!

If I were a girl and somebody did that, I think I'd be too creeped out to even consider going with that person. Is prom such a big deal in other parts of the country that you have to do some stunt to get a date?

I would recommend buying a gross (144) of roses and then laying them out on her front lawn in a pattern that says "I humbly request your presence by my side at prom" in Latin.

Supplex tuam praesentiam meo latere deambulacro quaero. Just showing off; I hope it doesn't violate the rules. ;)

Just ask. If she turns you down after an elaborate request, you'll feel really stupid.

i wish i knew latin, it sounds so...sophisticated

nope, no frills needed. A simple, "would you like to go to prom with me?" works for nearly everyone.

But one of my classmates asked his girlfriend out by getting his guy friends to wear white t-shirts, each saying one word of the phrase "will you go to prom with me?" And they all lined up. It was pretty good

That hangman idea was perfect - if I were you I'd do that. It's cute but not barf-tastically mushy or embarassing.

wellll .. it's not like you're asking her to be your girlfriend or whatever, if you were .. the whole treasure hunt idea would've been super cool, the math formula is cool too .. how cutee!

but if you're only asking her as a friend i like whatismouse's hangman idea.

Asking a girl to prom...? - dyestat.com Track Talk

i would go with the powerpoint, but that's just me.

i think something too huge and public is kind of off-putting

but the hangman idea is really cute

taboo during study hall has become this huge thing at my school and a friend of mine was going to ask another friend of mine to prom, haha, and they always play taboo together during study hall. So he was going to ask her via a taboo card. but there were other circumstances that wouldve made this awkward, so he didn't. would've been really cute though!

I think it's nice to do something that has to do with what the person likes or related to some sort of inside joke you guys have

Seriously, guys. Just ask casually. Unless you know that the girl likes you, don't do anything cutesy or grand. Trust me. We don't like it when that random guy in our Calc class who hasn't said a word to us all year does something elaborate. It's just embarrassing and stressful.

dont generalize woman.

Do a risk and reward analysis on this. Your goal, presumably, is to get her to go to the prom with you. Your secondary goal is probably to limit your disappointment and humiliation if she says no. Do you think that an elaborate ask will make in more likely for her to say yes? Put that against the certainty of humiliation if she says no after the elaborate ask.

... tell me you didn't just compare probability and statistics to asking a girl out to prom. I can see this slowly developing into a Discovery Channel special. ;)

Thanks, alamode, for sharing your friend's idea.... I am sure he doesn't mind it being disseminated on internet forums... :)

I did it over Facebook. Romantic enough in my opinion. Flame me all that you want.

Guys, last year, I asked my date to the prom at a Quiz Bowl match. Seriously, it went like this:

Team: general prom conversation at the table between matches
Sophomore girl: "Hey, salamander, who are you taking to the prom?"
Me: "I don't know yet."
Me: turns head to male friend sitting next to me
Me: "Hey, C, want to go to the prom with me?"
C: "Sure."

Simple as that.

no prob, goyanks ;)
