i know someone who when they were in college like never bought a textbook, they'd just go to the library and read it there.

does ucsd's libraries have copies of all the textbooks?
the reason why is because theres a class i'm only going to be taking for 1 quarter and i dont want to waste money on a book im only going to be using a little.

also, for math 10a/b/c does it use the same book for all 3 quarters? or do you have to buy different books for each quarter.

Yeah, the libraries usually have all of the textbooks. It's a bit of a hassle, but you can just study at the library or make photocopies when you need it.

for the 10 and 20 series math, a, b, and c all use the same book.

I only buy books if I am going to use it for multiple quarters, or if I feel it may somehow prove useful in the feature (which isn't very useful...).

The libraries have most class texts on reserve (available for 2 hour checkout at Biomed, 3 Hours everywhere else). If your text isn't on reserve, bug your professor to do it (some professors are really slow to do it...).

Also, making friends (especially older ones that have money) is a great way to save money on books. I have borrowed plenty of books because I was too cheap to buy them which so far has saved me like $600.
