Do you have to dorm for the whole year?

I'm a transfer dorming in Collegetown this fall. If I were to so choose, could I drop the housing for the spring semester and just get an apartment, or am I contractually bound to stay in the dorm and pay for it for the spring?

I'm asking because the apartment will probably be cheaper since I plan to stay the summer in Ithaca anyways and the next school year too, and I'd probably prefer a more independent lifestyle over dorming again for the second semester.

Thanks a lot

Why don’t you call or email the housing office?

Yes, you can break your contract if you pay $750.
But honest to god, all the cheap apartments in Collegetown are gone.
I had to lease my apartment at Collegetown Plaza an year prior to me actually living there because Collegetown apartments go like hotcakes.

Just live in your dorm for now, and sub-lease over the summer. Since most of the students go home during the summer and their lease is 1 year, a lot of them are willing to sub-lease their apartment for next to nothing.
