Do you ABSOLUTELY have to study the major/concentration you selected on your application?

I’m pretty sure, at least for CAS, as long as you stay within that school, you can pick a major at orientation. But, let’s say if you were in Steinhardt for studio art, it’s something you submitted a portfolio and got in partly due to your talent in that area. You definitely cannot change schools once accepted. What school/major did you apply for and what major do you want?

No, you can declare your major in sophomore year. As long as it is a major in the school that you applied to. Can"t apply to CAS, then switch major to finance. Its a diiferent school(Stern).

What about those who have been accepted into LSP?

Same deal for LSP. When you declare your major (generally between 2nd semester sophomore and the beginning of junior year), you transfer over to CAS. Since upon leaving LSP, your core classes are virtually gone, you will basically be taking only classes that have to do with your major. Like any CAS student, you may transfer to any other major within CAS and is generally only a matter of talking to the right advisors.

I wanted to add that, while your major must be in the school you applied to, your minor does not. There are plenty of minors that are cross-schooled. For example, as an Urban Design/Architecture at CAS major, I can take studio art at Steinhardt as my minor. They have a list of such courses that are cross-schooled on the NYU website.
