i'm specifically asking about university of illinois at urbana-champaign

I am asking because it kind of sounds like it with all the high school friends I had that are currently attending UIUC. Can someone talk to me about this stuff? Like let me know information? Thanks.

JeSuis is completely right. Dorm life is great and that’s where a lot of freshmen will make a fair share of close friends. Clubs and classes are also a great way to make new friends. Greek life is good for that too.

I feel like I met most of my friends outside parties and then went to parties with them…I don’t think the actual act of partying creates a whole bunch of friends for most people. Though I’m sure it varies, of course.

^ Yeah, I agree. I’m a freshman and I don’t party, but during this last semester, I’d be chilling in my dorm and on Thursday/Friday/Saturday I’d see a lot of people from my floor or other floors go together to parties. My roommate parties a decent amount and he said that he really hasn’t made any new friends from parties, although I’m sure you can.

depends on what kinda friends you want to make.
the friend group that parties a lot might want you to party with them, otherwise you’ll seem uncool, but most kinda people don’t party very much, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding ppl with other interests.

UIUC is a pretty big school, so there’s lots of other ways to meet people. I go to another big “party football school” (Penn State) and it’s incredible how the majority of my friends are from classes, clubs, and other extracurricular activities. However, I’ve met some cool people at parties, but most of them aren’t the keeper types. You’ll be fine. Just go with the flow, do things you like and you will meet people along the way.

As a freshman at UIUC, I’m telling you that the answer to this question is no. UIUC’s such a big school that there really is a place for everyone. As others have said, clubs are a good place to make friends since you know you have some sort of common interest, especially at UIUC where there’s a club for almost anything you could think of.
