I submitted my application tonight so I could get it in by the recommended deadline, but I was wondering if I also needed to pay the application fee as well.

Does anyone know what the policy is about this?

I'd rather wait to hear from Early Action before I put down the (non-refundable?) $75 for my application.

An application isn’t really submitted until you pay the fee. If you qualify for free or reduced lunches, you can get some fee waivers from your school.

I submitted my supplement (for free) on October 10th and the main application (for a fee) on October 30th and I got the interview. The website says that you just need your name in the system, which means you can submit the supplement, main application or both. I’m pretty sure the main application isn’t processed until the fee is paid.

From what I understand, you do not have to pay the application fee with the Common Application submission in order to qualify for an interview. The e-mail I got from Duke after I submitted my Common App on the 9th (for the Dec. 10th deadline) said:

You can infer from the e-mail that the app and the fee are recorded independently from each other.

I think the point of submitting something by the deadline is so that Duke can open a file for you and so that they have an idea of how many applicants they will need to interview. They don’t need your entire application or your fee. By giving them some portion of your application, you are letting them know that you intend to apply.
