Do you have to?!

yea, i was just wondering if i wanted to self study APs and take the test, would i have to tell my guidance counselor? and if she discouraged it, would i still be allowed to take them?

It depends on how you sign up for exams. If you sign up for them with someone else--for example, someone in the finance office--then no, you wouldn't need to tell your GC. And yes, you can still take them even if your GC "discouraged" it. Unless it's prohibited, you should be fine, though you'll have to check school policy.

And if your GC doesn't let you for some reason, you can take it at another school. Just make arrangements with that school's GC and figure something out.

No, you don't have to tell your counselor.

Ask your AP cooordinator to find a place for you to take the tests, if the AP coordinator is your counselor, then ask your school's administrators or try to take the tests at another school.
