Do you like your high school?

I have been to 2 different high schools and have had my issues with both. Most people I talk to usually don't like their schools either and I always wondered if its the schools we don't like or just school in general. I personally like learning but the NYC school system is terrible and actually prevents learning and growth.

So, do any of you like your high schools?

ehh its alright. its just the drama, but other than that i like it. the teachers are good, its fairly competitive, i’m happy.

We have a really amazing performing arts program, but aside from that, I completely despise my school. It’s just … not very good. We’re in what is possibly the best school system in Georgia, sure, but a) … in Georgia is not saying very much and b) we might be the worst school IN the best school system. We recently got a new principal who I affectionately refer to as the ice queen from hell, our administrators care more about whether your skirts extend past index-finger length than about who’s smoking weed in the bathrooms, most of the teachers (with the exception of the wonderful Talented and Gifted educators - they’re fantastic!) are completely useless … ugh. I could go on forever. Yeah, and we have major clique problems with one-dimensional clones running around everywhere. AND we have “no-standing zones” next to the stairwells, as in yes, you can get a detention for loitering in the five minutes that we have between classes.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, I’ll be gone in a year! :)

Not very competitive,

Easy to get As.

Bad counselors.

Bad food.

Boring demographic (~95% Hispanic)

Not a wide array of courses to choose from

Eh. I’m okay with it.

I do, because I chose to go to it. Its a magnet school with a medical focus. love it.

i go to catholic school. most people here probably wouldnt like it, but i actually love it. cool teachers. cool kids. i just wish we had more ap courses available, oh & better food.

I hate my high school
-bad teachers
-bad students
-bad classes (too big)
-bad facilities
-no cookies at lunch anymore
-expensive food
-sports-crazed
-bad funding
-bad landscaping
-bad counselors
-bad scheldule
-bad weighting system.
-bad library/librarians

prolly forgot other bad things

Its ok. Its a prep school so alot of bratty rich kids. I’m one of few african americans so I don’t like that, which is why i’m applying to 3 hbcu’s this year. It’s really competitive but I’m fine with that. I like the freedom. We have 4 hours of class a day, and 3 hours of break time. We are allowed to leave during breaks and my school is in an amazing location so there are tons of things to do. There isn’t any type of transportation so most people drive themselves starting sophomore year, which is nice because it forces your parents to buy you are car.

I’ve decided I don’t like school in general so I can’t really say that I just hate my school in general.

I guess I like it, I’m kind of sick of the people.

The hallways/stairwells are EXTREMELY crowded between periods because like half of our school is gone bc they are building a new one. (Which is supposed to be done for my senior year.) I live in a wealthy area, but it’s a public school, so it’s not that bad in that respect. Some teachers are really good, and some are really bad. Most Classes are not easy, but there are a handful of teachers that give out A’s easily. My school is full of overacheivers, etc. Also, has a lot of people who are grade grubbers, and get hw from other people, don’t actually do work, etc. I also think we have pretty good school spirit, but it could be better. (We have an really good bball team, REALLY bad football team, lol.) Also, because of the construction there is no student parking, which really sucks. People park in 2 hr and move their cars though, or they park illegally and pray not to get tickets.

I’m actually really excited to see what the new school is going to be like.

I like mine. Our school gets alot of negative views (mainly by the newspaper), but if you compare it to other schools in my city, its not so bad.

There arent little cliques, everybody gets along =) So, hardly any drama

The education is pretty good, I just wish that we had courses like pre-med, german or latin…

WE’RE MODEST. Again the media makes us look bad, but that means there arent any rich preppy kids, (okay we’re preppy but not snobby or rich), we’re all down to earth =)

I’m going to miss it =(

I do not really like my high school. Nope…

I love my school… but people are dying to get out of it. I just wish it wasn’t so hard to get an A. sigh

Pros:
Small classes (My biggest class this year was 18… my smallest 9- Next year my smallest class should only have 6) I’ve even had a class with five students and I know of classes with three students.
Small school (150 kids in grades 9-12)
Required sports (everyone has to play a sport and we have no PE)
Basically only honors and AP courses (there’s like three standard courses… the rest are honors and AP)
Generally nice kids

Con
Hard to get an A
Pretty stressful if you take on seven classes
Lack of electives

I’d love my high school if it wasn’t for the kids who ruin it.

+Snobby, cliquey, stuck up
+Badmouth anyone with higher grades than them
+99.9% white, literally

My high school is peaceful. but it is relatively NONCOMPETITIVE, the sports in general are OK at best when it comes to state, and the school is BORING. Not to mention lots of weeds (the tumbling kind, not the smokable variety.) :P

LEMON

I detest my school. It’s filled with complete idiots.

-Half my friends and even the librarian are in love with the Twilight series.

-If it’s not sports, most people don’t care about it.

-When someone new finds out I take Japanese (and Chinese) instead of Spanish, they look at me like I’m insane. “What? Japanese? Like Ching chong and stuff? Why? Where would you use that? Spanish is the only useful language other than English. Duh.”

-Most people don’t even know our school has 13 online classes, much less that we offer Japanese, Chinese, Latin, World Myth, Physics, Calculus, and Psychology.

-My school has all the stereotypical cliques, and of course, the preps run the school, and are the presidents of everything; we have the “gangstas” and the jocks, and the artsy kids, etc.

-The principal is spastic about the dress code. If you wear straps too thin, he’ll send you home (but he doesn’t seem to mind when DD sized girls wears shirts with massive cleavage). He also discriminates against certain students. If you’re an honor roll student and violate the dress code (like most of the preps do), he won’t say anything, but if you’re an average student, he’ll write you up for the same violation.

My GC is clueless. I haven’t asked her anything about college since I asked about scholarships, and she replied “I only have them for seniors.” (Though I must admit, I do hold a sort of grudge against her. I felt a little insulted when she me if I passed Chinese or not after I pointed out a blaring error on my transcript.)

That basically sums up most of the people in my school. Dumb students, dumb administration.

Although, I do like the lunch ladies. =D They know me well and they always have my food ready for me at breakfast and lunch.

No! I HATE it! The school is damn boring, 80% Hispanics and most of them are ignorant. I am kinda bugged 'cause they think my country (an Asian country) is related to China, produces Hello Kitty and eats sushi everyday. Some of them also went so far as call me Jackie because they hell cannot say my name (or because they’re ignorant and lazy *******s that never bother to learn). Teachers are too easy. Some don’t know what they’re teaching about. I also saw one Hispanic teacher who talks LOUSY English with terrible grammar and he talks in Spanish half of the time and is an ESL GRAMMAR TEACHER. But one managed to trick me to fail the chance of going to a better high school.
On the flipside we have magnificient facilities and I think I have a trustworthy counselor.

Yeah, I do. It has a reputation for being rich, white and snobbish, but I don’t think that’s true. It’s a good size (around 200 per class- a little less) and I think it’s fairly close-knit. And it’s got good academics and good teachers. So I’m happy.

I like my school enough. It has some unique clubs and activities that I enjoy.

I like my school. I wish the advanced classes were more diverse. In terms of race, gender, socio-economic status, everything. Most of the people I see are white, female, and upper-middle class or better off. I match two of those, but it still gets annoying. Just generally less segregation. I feel like there’s an entire half of my class that I don’t know at all.
And I wish we had more sane English teachers. Most of our English teachers are frigging crazy. Oh, and the language program sucks because the school wastes tons of money educating the three largest classes (7th-9th grades) in required Latin.

I like most of my school. I’ve had many good teachers and there are advanced classes available. Most people are morons, but there are many who aren’t.

The administration is incurably lazy though.
