I have one of the most common girl's names in the US, and I hate it. Seriously, there's always at least one other girl in each of my classes who has the same name I do and it's usually more than that. If you call my name in public, I assure you at least five girls within hearing distance will wonder if you're talking to them. It makes me feel so un-unique.

Guys named Michael, Jacob, John/Jon, Dan, and Chris know what I'm talking about. Doesn't it suck that we can't name ourselves? And legally changing your name is a pain in the butt?

*** are you talking about. You should be grateful for what your parents named you. I know I am glad that my parents named me Laquisha Bonifa Shaniqua III.

I like it. A lot of strong women all throughout history have had my name. I don’t think I’ll ever have children, but if I do, then I’d have a daughter, and I think I’d want her to have my name for that reason.

My names aren’t necessarily unique but they’re not common. It’s nice. I can get personalized mugs but I’ve only met a handful of other people with my name, and never a girl in the same class as me.

No. I HATE IT! I’m of Kenyan descent, so I guess my name is “unique”. All through out my school years people have all said my name incorrectly. It’s gotten to the point where I’m going by 3 different names at different places: at school, at home, and outside. Not to mention that my legal last name is hyphenated (sp?) but I’ve pretty much lost the hyphen since 6th grade. I’m kind of embarassed to mention this but, when I go to order pizza I always go by the name Sarah (even though that’s not my name). It’s just easier than having to deal with my own name.

^Hey! We must be twins I use “Sarah” or “Rachel” whenever I order at Starbucks.

My Americanized name is the phonetic spelling of my Chinese name. Think along the lines of Chen Li -___-

People who’ve never seen me in person assume that I’m some kind of Asian math genius with a 5.0 GPA…purely based on my name. For the sake of college admissions, I almost wish it were true ;)
