Do you need SAT IIs if you take the ACT?

Many of the colleges/universities say that they require SAT I and IIs OR ACT with writing. ACT has a short science section, is this sufficiently replaces the 2 to 3 SAT II requirements? Anyone out there applied/accepted into UNC, Tuft, Dartmouth, etc. Tier I colleges based on ACTs without the SAT II test scores? If I decided to take the ACT instead of the SAT I, should I also take the SAT IIs just in case it is needed?

Thanks!

Have you checked the websites of UNC, Tufts, Dartmouth to see if they accept the ACT in lieu of both SAT I and II? If so, I guarantee you that there are students who got into those schools submitting only the ACT. I know of at least one poster here whose kid got into Brown submitting only the ACT.

Of course, not every school allows it. You need to check requirements carefully.

Chedva has given the correct advice that you need to check the policies of each college to which you will apply. Some colleges (notably Harvard and the U of California system) will still expect SAT Subject Tests from all applicants, while other colleges waive that requirement for applicants who submit ACT scores. Check each college website one by one to be sure what the requirements are--especially next year, when you apply.

As a junior, you are in a good position this year to attend some college information sessions

to gather information about requirements like that and to help refine the list of colleges you will apply to.
