Do you need to prepare for PSAT?

Do you need to prepare for PSAT? If you do, how do you prepare for psat? Is preparation of Real SAT good enough for psat?

Well, that really depends. Colleges don't use PSATs for admissions. There are some scholarships based on PSAT scores, but you have to really crush the test to be in the running. Plus there's the National Merit Program...you can get recognition as a Commended Scholar, Semifinalist, or Finalist and you can get a small scholarship. You have to be among the top students in your state.

Schools also start sending out brochures and other recruiting mailings based on PSAT scores.

So, if you think you're in the running for a top score, you might want to prepare. If you feel like you're ready to take the SAT fairly soon...say in December or January of your junior year, think about prepping for the PSAT. But don't sweat it too much.

And as to your last question...Yes, preparing for the SAT is how you prepare for the PSAT. The PSAT is a very slightly easier, somewhat shorter version of the SAT without the essay.

There are actually a lot of books out there that are just for PSAT prep. I don't recommend them. Prep for the SAT using one of the million methods there are, and you should be fine. If you're going to be taking the PSAT for the first time as a sophomore, don't bother prepping too much. This test means nothing and will not affect National Merit. The junior PSAt does affect National Merit and you should prep if you didn't hit your state's National Merit PSAT score cutoff during sophomore year.

Yes, you should. National Merit Scholarship is a relatively big deal (national scholarly recognition, that is), so if you think you have a chance at it, prepare.
Personally, we bought an SAT prep software for our son,
he spent some time going through it, did really well on PSAT (and SATs later on) and now payng for it :) since he needs to write an extra essay for the NMS.

my teachers didn’t give me any practice booklet for me to study for the psat…is wrong for them to do so?

it really doesn’t matter…the people who say it does are just the ones who are ultra nervous about everything…if you are an exceptional student try your best cas you’re in the running for national merit, which is overrated, but a nice thing to have as is every little thing that pads your resume…if u dont do well it should be the least of your concerns, it’s probably the least significant test you will take in high school
