ok so i posted a thread like 2 or 3 days ago and haven’t got any replies yet but i really want to go to Brown. REALLY. i live in a developing african country but go to high school in south africa in some “elite” british school. im in my final year. (the courses are very rigorous and we get the best matriculation results). my EC’s and achievements include:
basketball (the school team)
community service (60hrs+) (so far)
debating
stage manager for a school production
lighting director for two school productions
award for academic excellence
we dont follow a ranking system but i would say im in the top 15% but im like the only person (and three other people) who’s applying to an american university.

i do math, english, bio, speech and drama, hist, french, and spanish. i
our school year begins in jan and ends early december so ill have to wait about 7mnths before attending IF i do get in. i am brilliant at all my subjects except math which i could get a B in if i work my butt off for my final exams. i haven’t done any SAT’s yet but do you think i stand a chance? and how do you think i should approach the whole self evaluation essay? PLEASE reply if you have any tips, suggestions, or experience with the application process.

you wont know unless you try... you seem like a good student who is eager to get involved in his community - that is what everyone says ivy league schools look for. So, my advice is go for it b/c if you dont you'll always wonder. And whats the worst that happens, you get rejected... wel so do 18,000 other applicants a year.

well you didn't really give stats (sats, sat iis, or grades) so if we're judging on extracurriculars, i'm willing to guarantee that there are many students at brown who do the same things.

the fact that you're from africa is really cool--- if i were you i might write about that in your essay, maybe compare/contrast life in your developing country and at your school. just an idea.
