Hi, I am an international student who is going to obtain an association degree from C.C. in NY State next year.
I was wondering whether there is any possibility of being accepted if I apply for Columbia GS in the future.
My curricular and extra-curricular activities before coming to the U.S. are following:

-High school diploma from prestigious high school in my country (GPA 1.7/4.0)
-SAT I 2150(700 in CR, 650 in writing, 800 in math)
-A semester in top 10 uni in my country (Student representative of my department, GPA 2.07/4.5)
-Activist activity when I was attending former university
-A year in London
-Worked as an interpreter at Korean Embassy in U.K.
-Internship at the British Council Korea for 3 months
-Served my compulsory national service in U.S. Army;
Some might know, there is a programme that is named 'KATUSA'(Korean Augmentation to the U.S. Army) in Korea. I was a soldier of both Korean Army and the U.S. Army.
(ETS as a SGT, several recommendation letters from my battalion commander(Lieutenant colonel), company commander(Captain) and first sergeant)

My GPA in my current institution is 4.0/4.0. Furthermore, I am trying to obtain an internship position for summer break if it is possible.

If I sustain my GPA for rest of my term in current institution and make another significant extracurricular experience, do you think it would be worth a shot?

I am looking forward to get any advice from anyone. Thanks.

It sounds like it’s certainly possible. Your essay is hugely important, and they’ll probably want to interview you, but if you maintain a ~4.0 at the CC you’ve got a shot.

Thank you, campaigner. Another quick, or hard, question to you. Do you think there is any point that I should emphasise on my essay? Also, can you tell me the precise reason why they would interview me?

For the essay, two things:

1) Why GS? Why now? What is it specifically about the program that attracts you?

2) Don’t leave them wondering. Answer any questions they may have, especially about the “bad” parts of your history. You don’t want them to think you’re hiding anything.

Your high school GPA appears quite low to me, but that may be typical for your school. That’s the biggest red flag, to me.

I’m Korean-American (adopted) and applying into GS. I don’t have the 4.0 GPA like you or the top SAT scores but some alumni told me to give a shot. I’m thinking the essay matters a great deal as well as the interview. It’s not just about a hard worker with perfect scores who shaped up or stacks of recommendation letters. You could probably get into a lot of top colleges with a 4.0 and your SATs. I think GS has a cut off from high school graduates fresh out of school and those who have perfect everything academically and professionally at current. I’m not sure but I read they took in a GED student as well as even regular people. Criteria seems other than a 4.0 and 2400 or 36
