Do you think they'll accept me?

I'm planning to apply to the spring semester at Rutgers New Brunswick from a CC.
In high school, I was the party guy who did ****. My gpa was like a 1.7 and a 1500 SAT. I decided to turn away from that crap at ac ommunity college and I now have a 3.7-3.6 gpa with 27 credits. I'm taking 12 more in the fall semester. I'm planning to apply to rutgers early sept for the spring semester. My optional essay will be pretty good I guess, I'll be talking about school pride and rutgers. I plan to be an economics major.
Do you think I have a shot? I applied to Montclair state/SUNY Albany/SUNY Buffalo and got in. But the difference is that all of them except Montclair did not request my high school records. Rutgers is requesting them.

What should I do to bump my chances? I know about getting in rutgers with an a.a is much easier but I want out of my home ASAP and want to experience real college life sooner! Get professor recommendations? (I got professors that actually like me... but that was in the spring/fall. How can I contact them now?) Should I say i'm applying undecided, even though I want to go in economics (which is in the school I'm applying to, school of arts and sciences.

I really want to go. I'm a pretty big rutgers fan without even being in the school. I do not want to go to other schools where I honestly would have a better chance because they no longer request high school records from me. (Northeastern/Syracuse/Umass amerhst)

Thank you!

please help me out!

You’re in.

you sure? Should I say I’m majoring in economics or play it safe and go undecided?

haha they’re requesting my SATS. thanks though! I’m open to more opinions.
I just feel rutgers NB is a better fit for me because I like a lot about it. The people (diverse, bad and good), campus, professors, etc. Northeastern has all snobby rich kids (toolbags) and syracuse has some cool people but the party scene seems a bit much (i could be wrong.)
umass’s campus is ugly and it’s seems kind of lower ranked to be spending OSS fees at or am I wrong about that one?

I live in Massachusetts and if you want to study Economics, Rutgers is probably the place to go. UMass does not have a strong Economics program at the Undergraduate level (or really at the grad level) and I know many econ majors who are unhappy there. It isn’t really worth going there if you are out of state but they have a decent engineering program.

Northeastern is a very urban campus. They have good looking buildings but they are expensive, even with the scholarships they give out. The programs there are not stronger than those at UMass. There are many professional part-time students at Northeastern, especially in thier MBA programs. Many students there, especially in Engineering and Computer Science, are involved in co-op.

I don’t know much about Syracuse, as I have only really visited colleges and heard from students in MA.

I would say that Rutgers is definitely your best option. In addition to having slightly better rankings (which are in my opinion not that useful), I think they teach undergrads better in economics (have more distinguished people in alum/faculty; heard from a student who transferred from UMass to Rutgers and another from UMass to UMD College Park). You should not have too much difficulty getting in because they know what SAT’s are meant for, to measure your first year performance in college. Many students I know did very badly in HS and got a 3.0 GPA (or less) and transferred to UMass. I think with a 3.3+ and even abysmal HS, you could get into Rutgers. If it is in state, it is a great value; otherwise it is expensive.

Look at the SUNY’s, especially if they are in state. The differences between in-state tuition and out-of-state tuition are quite large unless you manage to be admitted to a college that meets aid for OOS’ers like UVA. I really think you have a shot at UVA too and that you should apply there; it is much stronger than both UMass, Rutgers, Northeastern, and the SUNYs.

I got into the SUNYs (Bing/Albany/Buffalo) but I do not wish to attend there because the lifestyles there are somewhat unappealing(I don’t know I just don’t like it, i’ve check them all out). I’m in-state for Rutgers.

Thanks a lot. Should I bother with professor recommendations? (How would I get them from professors if the classes since the fall/spring semesters are over?)

UVA seems really hard to get into. I don’t know if that’s possible with the amount of credits I currently have (27)

UMass Amherst is suffering from a financial crisis. They are constantly increasing their tuition and not improving their facilities.

You could still probably get recommendations. Look and see whether letters of recommendations are required at the places you are applying and meet your professors in person and tell them you are applying to good universities and whether or not they are comfortable in giving you strong recommendations. If a professor hesitates, don’t get a recommendation from them; I did this in HS and got a bad recommendation.

thanks a lot guys! wouldn’t mind more “chance” posts tho!

bump  more posts please

last mighty bump

dude u’ll get in, easily

hopefully. It’s the least expensive school that’s good i can go to.
syracause/northeastern is so expensive. :[

i think you’ll get in cause like … you improved and all. so that’s a good sign. i’m from rutgers btw.

hopefully :[

few more chances please! i wish the 2010 spring apps would come out already… grrr…
