Opinions on Transferring to Rutgers NB Fall 2009.

I am currently a freshman at Montclair State University and I want to transfer out to Rutgers New Brunswick in Fall 2009, but I don't think I will get accepted, because last year I was rejected. =[ I already applied, and sent out my Montclair transcript, now I am waiting upon a reply from Rutgers.

... but in the meanwhile what are my chances of getting in?

I went to a private high school and my GPA was an 81 [they did not do GPA on a 4.0 scale]
My SAT scores - [Math-600], [Writing-520], [Reading-420]
My 1st semester GPA from Montclair was a 3.0

I know my high school GPA and SAT scores are low, but I talked to a Rutgers Professor a couple of days ago, and he said that if you have a 3.0 GPA from a community college that you are guaranteed admission. I go to a university, so i don't know if that helps ...
I also know another girl who went to Montclair and transfered out/was accepted to Rutgers Newark, and she had a 2.7 GPA from Montclair.
Facts like these give me hope - but very little.

I just want other peoples opinions on if I will or will not be accepted to Rutgers
--OR--
if anyone has been in the same kind of situation as me and has made it, or knows of anyone.

Thank You All =]

I am practically in the same situation as you but my story is a little different..

Im currently a freshmen at Rutgers Newark. I spent my fall semester at Pace University in nyc because i was wait listed to Rutgers New Brunswick. So I did well at Pace, and decided to give RU another shot for the spring semester. I applied yet again only to be denied by NB but granted admission to Newark. There is nothign wrong with newark but the only thing that gets me mad is that commute I have to make. It is practically a 45 min commute a day compared to the 10 min commute that NB has to my house.

RU offers this thing which is different. Its called "College to College transfer" It is for students who are already in the Rutgers system, lookign to transfer out to another Rutgers school. I just filled out the application and sent it in with a brief summary stating how the commute was a drag and so on. I need to keep a 3.0 gpa but it should be doable. I really just hope i get in.

Newark is muchh easier than NB for the record. I wouldn't have been denied 2wice if i didnt think so. hopefully 3rd times the charm

I saw your situation and I felt an obligation to reply. I transfered to Rutgers New Brunswick from MSU after my freshman year in the Fall of 2008. I got wait listed when I applied from high school but was eventually rejected, and then I reapplied for the Spring 2008, got rejected because they didn't have enough grades to judge on, and then I was finally accepted for Fall 2008 semester in the School of Arts and Sciences.

When I was at Montclair my grades were pretty much perfect. I got 3 A's and 2 A-'s my first semester, which is probably the reason they accepted me. I also got involved in clubs to show that I wasn't just a good student. I have to admit that I did well mostly because of 1) my motivation to get it, and 2) the ease of Montclair's classes. So if you aren't doing well in your classes at Montclair, i suggest you reevaluate whether or not you should transfer. Rutgers is not an easy school, and there are a lot of distractions.

I don't know what you're majoring in, but if you are doing science or want to get into medical school, I suggest you stay at MSU. This may come off as harsh, but I am telling you from personal experiences that a science major at Rutgers is brutal and highly competitive. I don't doubt the fact that you will get in, but from one transfer to another, I'm just giving you the advice I think you need.

its funny because i am in a similar situation, i also go to MSU and want to transfer out. i received my acceptance almost a month ago and i deposited my money for RU as it is my safety. i'd suggest listening to nainag because the science classes at RU are a pain, because i heard the same thing from my buddies down there. if you don't have at least a 3.0 i doubt you'll get into rutgers NB. I think the best minimum GPA is like a 3.2. mine was a 3.7 while working 2 jobs, had 2 medical internships, and volunteered over 2000+ hours of community work and tutoring over the past 4 years.

hope that helps as some sort of comparison. i'm not sure the comparison between montclairs science vs. RU's science, but i'm sure RU's would be more competitive. gen eds at MSU were a lot easier, but i think they changed the curriculum this year because things aren't quite the same as last year.

if you can get straight A's for spring semester, i'd say you have a great shot, but a 3.0 is near borderline rejection (i'm just trying to be honest). hopefully you'll work double time to motivate yourself to get some A's this semester, if you need help, just let me know. :)

any other questions, just private message me your name so i can message you on facebook or something since thats easier than this
