well theres some amazing optomism going on over here...
:rolls eyes:

...and i just realized that i spelt that wrong

diablov688--sleep a little once in a while and you'll type better. 4:17 AM, what the heck.

diablov could be in the west coast, in which case it would be 1:17 am, which isn't terribly late.

Maybe he is getting used to late college hours!!

Boys, I think I'm getting in. I got a letter earlier that sorta' said I would. And to assuage SAT score fears, mine was a 1530 (+800 writing SAT II). While that's not bad, for Duke to consider me to be in their top 2% means scores aren't all they're loking for.

They had 1,000 applicants this year with 1550 or better. And they sent out 350 likely letters; they obviously didn't go only to those kids.

Reeeeeeeeejected...but its a crapshoot..when you get up in the top tier of college applicants, how do they differentiate between AMAZING applicants...the truth is, they can't, and if you get in, consider yourself lucky and probably very deserving of it

Congrats tmasta

True that Scallops...sometimes....especially now....I wonder how top tier schools make their decisions based on several pieces of paper and one interview.

I was given hints that I'd get in to and I only have a 1980 on the new SAT. (but I'm international.)

i didn't even get an interview... can you say REJECTed?

"

How did you find that out?

I didn't get an interview either. poop.

what qualifies as a hint, florette?

For those of you concerned that you didn't get an interview, don't worry. The interviews are optional and only serve as an additional type of recommendation. The fact that you didn't have an interview should not have a significant bearing on admission, and certainly Duke doesn't decide in advance who to set up interviews with based on stats--that is, unless you are referring to being invited to Duke for a scholarship interview. Good luck to all.

I sure hope I get accepted, but I'll probably get rejected. Thursday will be either the happiest day of my life, or the saddest.

My friend is less than 1/4 African American but you can't tell at all (he looks white). He's not from a poor family or anything but he got invited to the Minority Weekend. I don't like this type of Affirmative Action; I think it should be more income/class based. How will my friend add any more diversity than me to the campus? Why does he get this advantage?

idk you guysssss im nervous I mean the only way ill get in is if they like my 2400 SAT, 5.0 gpa, and multiple club president EC's.

there should be no affirmativfe action. We should not put down our race and let the colleges pick us for our grades, scores, etc. Like it is always said, the cream will rise to the top!

Being South Asian, AA works against me and I particularly don't like it right now as I'm waiting for my decisions; yet, I think AA is a fair chance for URM to get the education they deserve (although it may not be fair for ORM). I guess I'm partial to the idea...diversity is a WONDERFUL thing so the more diversity the better.

"They had 1,000 applicants this year with 1550 or better. And they sent out 350 likely letters; they obviously didn't go only to those kids."

"In this year's applicant pool, we had 1,300 students apply who had a 1550 or above on the SAT," Guttentag says.

so I was off a bit, sorry.
And they didn't go only to those kids since I got one.
