Do your parents plan on forcing you to apply to Harvard?

My mom doesn't understand that I have enough mega high reaches on my list already. "I've never heard of this UChicago it must suck!" No mom, you haven't heard of it because you're old and your other two children go to community college -_-

^My parents said the exact same thing to me about UChicago sigh
My college list consists of:
5 reaches
6 matches
1 safety

I’m somewhat applying to Harvard on a whim. I know kids who are way more qualified than me, so I’m just kinda hoping I’ll get lucky.

My list has 6 schools, and I’d call 3 of them reaches, 2 of them “matches” though they are really low reaches, and 1 safety even though it has the same acceptance rate as the 2 matches - it’s a safety because it’s SUNY Binghamton and not NYU.

My list is so flawed :P

nope. my parents arent going to force me to apply anywhere. i’ll apply where il want to go.

Nope, but I might apply there anyway. I need another reach.

Yes lol. “Just apply to Harvard for the heck of it! You never know! Why do you keep talking about Duke and Emory? Harvard is the best!”

(Since most seem to be doing it): 4 reaches, 4 matches, 2 safeties

Nah, they wouldn’t waste the application money.
But I actually probably could get in because one of the deans at Harvard is a close cousin of mine.

Yes. Totally.

Me: “I want to go to Brown, Dad.”
Dad: “Why do you keep lowering your standards? You used to talk so much about how you wanted to go to Harvard.”
Me: “Then I woke up.”
Dad: “You need to set high goals. Stop setting your standards so low. Next thing you know, you will be talking about how you want to go to community college!”

I think it is that type of a parent’s mentality that makes Harvard’s acceptance rate ~5%.

I go there… But it was my choice to apply not theirs

My parents wanted me to apply, but I didn’t. Same with Yale actually. They also made me go to Brown haha although it was because of financial aid, which makes sense (idk if any classic era HSLers remember the “I don’t want to get into Brown thread :b”)

I applied of my own volition. I chose not to apply to Yale or Brown.

(<<) I thought someone else posted that (>>)

YEP. And for this reason

^^ I don’t remember who it was that posted that thread, but it is comical and seems relevant to this thread. Rumor has it that the OP ended up going to Brown anyway

and what about Harvard TCBH? Why are you trying to change the subject? >;|

answer’d .

My Dad would force me to apply to Stanford, if that is not where I wanted to go anyway.

I’m applying to Harvard because if I write the extended essay for Yale (which I like better), applying to Harvard is basically just application/test fees.

I have ~6 reaches, ~3 matches, ~2 safeties (top-heavy, I know).

At first i wanted to apply to Harvard cuz i thought that it was a cool school but now im kinda over Harvard but my rents are convinced that no other college will make you more successful than Harvard even though they know that its not true and just wanna get a reason to brag cuz i already have a cousin in an Ivy League school

But as of now: 5 reaches, 4 matches, 3 safeties
