my list of colleges. I have a solid 7 I want to apply to. This is so annoying. They are encouraging me to apply to IVY league schools but I know there is no way in hell I could get in. I have a small shot at Cornell, that's about it.

Here's my list:

UC Berkeley
Harvey Mudd College
Cornell University
UC San Diego
UC Davis
UC Irvine

as you can see, I want to stay in California.
What are some good schools you would add to your list that I have a shot at? Even if it's a small reach? Just don't put good schools like Harvard cause there's no way I could get in and I know that. Thanks

Here's what I've added so far:

UCLA
Brandeis University
University of Washington
Carnegie Mellon University
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor

The reason why these weren't originally on my list is because I want to stay in California and I hate LA.

I don’t know California schools that well but don’t let your parents push you any place you don’t want to go - you’re the one who’s gonna have to spend 4 years there

why did you add brandeis? are you jewish? (not that it’s only-jewish, but im guessing at reasons)

how about another one or two of the claremonts? caltech?

Caltech is too tech based to put it simple lol. I want to be able to take other courses… maybe psychology say, and they dont offer it. Also I really don’t think I can get in…

Brandeis… lol yes I’m Jewish, but my dad went there for Undergrad. He also went to Yale for Grad, but theres no way in hell i can get in there even with legacy.

I just don’t see Brandeis being particularly fittish for you.

So how goes my suggestion? Claremonts? Do you need financial aid, btw, coz Michigan = OOS = not too good. eh.

People on here seem to like Reed. I don’t know much about it.

my friend wants to go to Reed. It’s more of a Literature school.

Yeah… I don’t want to go to Brandeis. Dad’s suggestion since he went there. I hate how my parents are making me apply to more schools than I want.

Were pretty good with $, but yeah I could careless about getting into Michigan, I’d rather go to UCSD anyway.

Other Claremonts besides Harvey Mudd would be Mckenna for me. Pomona is more Lit based, Scripps is all girls- no. and Pitzer I wouldn’t get into if i tried.

You’re definitely in at all the UCs

You could always try for Stanford

University of Chicago

^how the heck am I in at UCLA or UCB???

It’s not like my GPA is kickass or my SAT score

Yeah, UCLA and Berkeley aren’t certain. If you get the SAT up past 2150, though, you’d stand a pretty good chance. I know people that got into one of them (usually Berkeley, sometimes UCLA) with less. Obviously anecdotal evidence…

Yeah… hey uh, do you think the fact that I’m a female and want to major in Mech. Engineering will help any?

Also… Dad says to switch U Michigan with U Texas- Austin. Weather is hell of a lot better.

Look at Rice, Claremont Colleges, try for Stanford (hey, it’s worth a shot), Brown, and Columbia. Emory’s not bad either.

I reccommend UIUC.

Yay! My parents finally agreed to 12 schools, I don’t need more!

so would you guys say Rice> Austin ? Considering my chances/ academics

Screw Illinois and Michigan.

Yes, rice>UT.

UIUC is actually a lot better than everyone on here says. I don’t understand why people make fun of it.

I prefer the atmosphere of Rice to Austin, it’s smaller.

Also apply ED to HMC. (poke)

^ aha. I would… but I’m still unsure of Harvey Mudd vs. UC Berkeley. Plus, my parents dont want me to go to Harvey Mudd if I get into Berkeley because of $. Also, my dad having gone to Yale… he’s a bit of an elitist and prefers the prestige of a school like Berkeley… also its research resources. (Yes I told him about HMCs research opporunities… he knows they’re awesome).

Also I wasn’t saying UIUC was a bad school by any means.

I just don’t like the sound/ idea of the environment. Illinois? and the weather in Michigan? Bleh.

I’ve been to ULCA, UC-Berkeley, Stanford, Emory, UMich, UW-Madison, UMN, UNC,Florida State, and UIUC, andddd UIUC had the best atmosphere/environment out of all of them. And the tour guides even lied and said that it doesn’t snow.

Your loss.

^ Including weather?
