I want to start one of these clubs at my high school. I noticed a lot of posts about these clubs, but they were all from 2006-2010, which is really outdated. I scrolled through them and several websites were posted regarding these clubs, like doctorsoftomorrow.net and fpaclub.org. These links are dead now.. does anyone know if they were moved to another web address? or did the whole organization just disappear?

Also, do you guys have any ideas on how to start one of these clubs at a high school? I feel like having lectures every meeting is too boring (we already get enough of that in school classes). and getting guest speakers would be great but we can't do that every week... even if we do get doctors who agree to come.. any other ideas/suggestions on what we could do at the meetings?

Thank you!

HOSA. It’s like the medical FBLA. It’s less about guest speakers and more about competition, conferences, and awards.

One person I know ran a club like the one you described above. We had maybe 3 meetings the entire year, when everyone else had one at least about once every other week. It’s hard to find new people to speak that actually want to come for a lunch period or something, and the members don’t actually end up gaining much of a benefit because they’re not at the stage that full-fledged doctors and physicians are at (they don’t understand things like residency, for example). The competition and awards aspect to HOSA attracts people looking to beef up their college applications and thus possesses an inherent motivational tool for its members. :)

capitalamerica our school has a hosa club. the thing is, they are not active at all and they don’t really do anything. I’ve contacted them but they never responded. my school won’t let me create another hosa, since we already have one
