Documents for financial aid application

Hello,

I have just finished filling out the CSS Profile and was wondering what documents will my parents have to supply other than the tax return forms.I mean, in the CSS they ask you a lot of questions where you just need to put in a number and not send anything. Is that true? because if not I want to start gathering the papers I will need as deadlines are approaching...

Does anybody know?

Different schools may require different documents, or none at all. I assume you did not get an email regarding IDOC once you completed your CSS Profile? IDOC is one method of seeing what you’ll need to submit in term of documents, but not all CSS Profile schools use that service.

If you didn’t get an IDOC email, then the schools will contact you with information about what documents they want. If you want to know sooner, you could call the individual FA offices and ask.

At minimum, what is common is the previous year’s tax return (2010) for both the parent(s) and the student. Also, all W-2 wage statements for that year, as well as 1099 forms. Most schools that will want documents at all will want those, although not necessarily all. Some schools may want something beyond them as well – you’d have to ask the schools about that.
