Do you need 20/20 vision to pass the DODMERB?

I believe I am about 20/30 - 20/45.

And also, how much, if this does indeed DQ you, hurt your chances on an appointment? How tough is it to get an eye waiver?

Thanks

It must be correctable to 20/20.

My son does not have 20/20 but does not feel the need to wear glasses or contacts. He drives, etc. without them. He got a letter saying he was waiverable for his eyes, then he automatically got a letter saying he had gotten the waiver. He never did anything.

I'm pretty sure in years past, anything worse than 20/20 was a dqing condition pending a waiver, usually granted in the spring. However, I believe this october usna changed their policy, allowing anything less than 20/40 to be "qualified". Anything greater would need a waiver.

Navymom2b- Hi, how long did it take your son to get the waiver, like how long was it from when it first said "waiverable" until you found out he got the waiver? I have a nomination and an LOA but my DODMERB status still reads waiverable and has been like that for awhile. I'm wondering when I'll finally be waivered. Thanks

The letters we received have disappeared, but we received the "wiaverable" letter early--like in August maybe. The letter from Dodmerb which said he had the waiver came in early September, maybe.
His eyes weren't that bad. He doesn't even have to wear glasses to drive.
What are you waiverable for?

same thing... my vision, i wear contacts

Last year my son who's eyesight is about the same, had his DODMERB come back USNA waiverable; USMMA fully qualified

Does ROTC not have the same quotas for eyesight? I just got a letter saying that my eyesight is waiverable for USNA, which I knew, (and I got the waiver) but that I'm fully qualified for ROTC. Is that weird?

USNA was the only one where I needed an eye waiver - USMA, AROTC, and NROTC didn't require waivers even though my eyes are pretty bad. And the same thing that happened to Navymom2b happened for me - the letter just appeared one day saying I had an eye waiver.

just as another experience with waivers...I was medically dq'ed twice for having flat feet, and then got a waiver about three days after my offer of appointment. about half of the kids here have waivers.
