Hi, I’m a senior in high school and I’m applying to West Point, the Air Force Academy and I began an application for the Merchant Marine Academy. One month ago DoDMERB told me I was medically disqualified because of a history of Spondylolysis and Spondylolisthesis (back problems I didn’t even realize I had). I completed my applications to WP and the AFA but I’ve been waiting for a wavier from the academies. I already have the necessary nominations, two for WP and one for the AFA. The Merchant Marine Acadmey offered me a waiver, so I’m hopeful I could get one from WP or the AFA. I checked my status at the DoDMERB website and it said…

Correspondence - Multi-Service Disqualification Removal - Waived: 01/16/2007

I’m not sure what that means, and I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on it.

Im guessing it means you got your waiver.............

You got your waiver and are now medically qualified. You should be getting a letter in the mail in the next week or so explaining everything.

do you think it means ill get a waiver from all the academies or is it just because i got a waiver from the merchant marine academy?

From my experience, all the academies use the same base in DoDMERB. If hte DoDMERB website shows that you have a waiver, WP and USAFA should accept the waiver as well. USMMA might just be quicker in corresponding with you about it, given their smaller size.

You got a waiver. You will still need to request a waiver for USAFA in writing. Contact your admissions counselor and they will tell you what you need for them. Each Academy is different. USMA will automatically look at the waiver you already have and no correspondence will be required.
