medical waiver - ROTC vs. USMA

My son has applied for class of 2010. He has his nomination and is fully qualified except for a medical disqualification which is in the waiver process now. As an alternate to USMA he will do ROTC at a civilian college so he applied for ROTC scholarship money. Originally he was medically disqualified by DODMERB for both ROTC and USMA, due to a "weak or painful back". This was an issue because he had been to a chiropractor for an adjustment when his back was sore from playing football. He has no injury to his spine and no ongoing back problems. DODMERB requested copies of medical records relating to the issue and within two weeks my son received a waiver for the ROTC program. Now we wait on the answer from USMA, will they or won't they grant him a waiver. Since ROTC waived it we are hopeful that USMA will too. It seems like it is taking forever to get the answer.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? What are the chances he will not get a waiver from USMA even though he did for ROTC?

I am a nervous wreck wondering if this is going to keep him from his dream of attending West Point.

From what ive heard, generally what one does, the other does. As in my case, i was denied a waiver for Air Force academy and was told basically that ROTC would most likely deny the waiver. However, it HAS been heard of that one will deny while the other approved.

Most likely if the ROTC program approved the waiver, most likely WP will approve the waiver (but as i said, it HAS happened otherwise).

Best of luck!
