When does USNA release the names of candidates to DODMERB? I called yesterday and I am still not on file (and as the lady on the phone explained to me, no navy candidates have been release to them yet).

USNA doesn't send names to DODMERB until 50 percent of your application is complete. NROTC send names to DODMERB after you have been selected for a scholarship.

well all my application is complete but the lady on the phone said that USNA hasn't released any names to them yet and I was wondering if anyone knew when they do that

^^^^^
USNA tends to be on the slow side compared to the other service academies. Hurry up and wait.

wow. you had a difficult lady. i started my dodmerb before my name was released by navy. weird.

^^^^^
If you apply for another program like Army ROTC, DoDMERB will probably receive your file before it is released by the Navy.

My guess (and mind you, it's just that) is that names will be released soon. I was notified yesterday that our BGO candidate system for the 2011 will be cleared shortly to begin the 2012 cycle. (just dawned on me, they are 30 years my junior)

I know what you mean, I am not that old, but is was roughly 20 years ago that I spent a summer as an enlisted operations specialist, training our future commanders and captains on a YP cruise. I still know how to operate a MO board and although rusty i could still figure out relative bearing and speed,

"new contact inbound, bearing 167 range 15000 yards designate CZ"

When you say 50% of our application must be complete, does that mean that our recommendations and CFA need to be done? I have no way to distribute activity sheets to my teachers, since I have been out of school for 2 weeks, and I'm sure others have been out for even longer.

Perhaps time to step out of the old comfort zone. I suspect your teachers have email, phones, addresses and would be happy to hear from you, knowing you need their special help in a timely way.

50% means about half the app and its various components.

Good luck. Time to stretch.

allright I guess I'll just wait then

You also might consider shifting your focus to your nomination sources, and making sure all your information (including recommendation letters) are in to them on time (which means EARLY). Getting your rocommendation letters in can be enough to focus on through the summer... And, when you have "off" time, prep for your interviews and/or work on your USNA portion of the process. Also, get and/or stay fit. Additionally, S, who has just 4 short days left before we head south for I-Day, would recommend that you ENJOY this last summer at home (anticipating that you will, indeed, be successful in your quest for USNA), and that if you have things like Eagle Projects, GET THEM DONE NOW!! There's plenty to do to maintain your whole person score without obsessing on just the USNA online application or DODMERB portions. And, if you've not applied to NROTC, you should probably get that in the works, as well. All the best!

I am going to a different school senior year, which makes this entire process even harder. I think I will try to get everything except my recs and CFA done before I start school again.

You would probably be better served by getting your recommendations from your 11th grade teachers. Getting recommendations from teachers who don't know you very well in the fall could be risky.

I have to agree with GA. Our son was in a different school every 2 years. It takes some time for teachers to get to know you and the deadlines will hit prior. Most schools are open in the summer and if you explain what you are doing they will help. Our son had to track down a math teacher from AL to TX and we had moved to TN. HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT!!!

My daughter just received her DODMERB medical examination packet in today's mail from Concorde, Inc. We're going to hold off on the exam until her braces are removed in August, otherwise she'll end up with a DQ.

I don't believe you should wait. My son had his dodmerb exam done the middle July and by the time all the paperwork was said and done and all the letters written it was not until the end of November that he got his approval; and this was during their "slow" time. The sooner the better. They will just tell you the braces have to be removed.

Just got my forms yesterday. Now I just have to schedule appointments.

GA - I wouldn't wait on the exam. My D had a retainer but we did the exam anyway. She did not get a DQ instead she got a request for more info. By the time we got the request for more info the retainer was off and it flew through. My D had a few other totally unexpected issues that needed more info and had we started later it would have been more difficult to deal with those unexpected things. I think where DoDMRB is concerned, earlier is better.

Braces should not be a DQ; son had his braces on right up until about a week before I-day.
We sent him w/ a retainer that he wore at night.
